About Tom & His Magic...

Tom became interested in magic at the age of 12 when he did a report on a magic book; less than a year later he was “paid performer” at a Mother-Daughter banquet. In the 28 years since that first show, he has taken his teenage hobby and made it his obsession and profession. At the beginning of the new millennium, Tom quit his “day job” as an engineer and middle manager at Alcoa (after 10 years) to pursue his passion in magic full time. There hasn’t been a single regret because he truly loves making people laugh and enjoy themselves.

Tom loves magic…and audiences love Tom! He performs more than 250 shows a year throughout Tennessee, and around the country. His zany presentation of magic is funny as well as polished, professional and very entertaining. The key to his act is the way in which he interacts with the audience and gets them involved in the humor and antics from the very start of his routine. His act is very spontaneous and audiences admire his quick wit and energetic style. Tom has had several television appearances, including three different commercials (VISA Card, Snapper lawn mowers, and a law firm).

While in his Junior year at college in 1985, Tom began performing close-up magic in restaurants. This form of magic – “table hopping” as referred to by magicians – has been a love of Tom’s ever since. He has been a part of the ambiance of various restaurants in Cincinnati, Evansville, Terre Haute, Dallas, and Knoxville. This sleight-of-hand style of magic is also popular at receptions, cocktail parties, tradeshows, and other similar events. In 2002, Tom was offered a full-time position as the house magician at a luxury resort in Boca Raton, Florida.

Since 1986, Tom has been a member of the Society of American Magicians (SAM) and a very active part of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M.). The Evansville, Indiana I.B.M. chapter named him the Magician of the Year in 1993 and again in 1995. In January 1995, Tom began writing a monthly column for the “Linking Ring” – the prestigious worldwide publication of the I.B.M. – and he became the Assistant Editor for this journal a couple years later. His articles have won several awards.

In addition to his magic, Tom is an excellent balloon artist. He boasts of over 250 different creations including cartoon characters (like the Road Runner and Tweety Bird), some awesome hats, and even Elvis! In February 2001, he returned from the biannual TJam (an international convention for balloon twisters) having entered an original creation that won first place in the “Best Toy” competition. In 2003, Tom completed two instructional videos of more than four dozen creations.

Tom's shows contain a unique blend of comedy, magic, funny business, and audience participation. ALL ages enjoy the show! Tom’s primary purpose is to get the audience to enjoy the magic with a laugh and a perpetual smile.

Tom is not going to recite a monologue of jokes. Rather, his comedy comes from sight gags, situations that arise during the magic, and hysterical stories that go with his tricks. Tom has sharpened his sense of timing and humor over thousands of performances.

The key to Tom’s act is the way that he interacts with the audience. He immediately brings down the invisible barrier between the audience and himself so he can relate with the audience & get them having fun.

Tom performs more than 250 shows a year. It started as a hobby when he was a teenager, and has grown over the past 29 years to be his full-time profession. From comedy clubs and theater stages to classrooms and even living rooms…Tom has been there and done that!

Not only does Tom have a lot of experience doing stage shows for both family and adult/corporate audiences, but he also has a unique brand of strolling entertainment. Since 1985, Tom has performed one or more nights a week in local restaurants wherever he lived. Visiting up to 30 tables a night with his "close up" magic, he has gotten very good! In 2001 Tom was offered a position as “house magician” at a resort in Boca Raton, Florida. This style is great for receptions, trade shows & informal parties.

Tom provides all of the props, tables, and items needed for the show. He always arrives before show time to get set up and ready (and in 28 years, he has never been late to a single engagement). If you don't have a sound system, don't worry -- Tom can bring his own. You have nothing to worry about…he’s the total entertainment package! And that’s why he is such a sought after performer around the region.
